Stablecoins Bridge Cross-Border Payment Gaps, Says Bitget Wallet Exec
At Blockchain.RIO, Alvin Kan, COO of Bitget Wallet, spoke about how stablecoins can bridge cross-border payment gaps and unify methods. He compared this to Brazil's instant transfer tool Pix, which he found 'amazing' for its ease of use. Kan cited Latin America as a region where instant payments are common, but digital wallets fill gaps in countries like Argentina and Bolivia, where local currencies face depreciation pressure.
Kan mentioned that every region has its own particularities, and frequent travelers or those exposed to the global market need an alternative to traditional methods. He noted that blockchain technology and stablecoins provide transparency and security for transactions, even under differing regulatory frameworks.
Bitget Wallet's infrastructure layer, the Onchain Payments Matrix, coordinates blockchains, stablecoin issuers, card networks, and merchants into a single system, routing transactions and managing settlement across global and local rails. The company also recently launched Assetback, a crypto card feature that allows cardholders to earn rewards in Bitcoin, tokenized gold, NYSE-listed stocks, or stablecoins on purchases.
