Stablecoins Give High-Inflation Nations a Lifeline
Crypto adoption is surging in high-inflation countries like Venezuela, Argentina, and Turkey. According to Tether's CEO Paolo Ardoino, USDT adoption is rising across these nations, where residents are turning to stablecoins for domestic trade, cross-border payments, and inflation protection.
Tether's financial inclusion mission is more important than ever, as several developing economies heavily rely on USDT. In Venezuela, the stablecoin supports import and export settlements amid ongoing currency pressure, while in Bolivia, it's used for commercial transactions as dollar access tightens.
In Argentina, peer-to-peer trading involving USDT is widespread, and Turkish users are increasingly using the stablecoin as a hedge against currency depreciation. These patterns reflect broader dollar demand across regions with unstable monetary policy.
The growth of stablecoins is not limited to individual use cases. Transaction data shows that crypto card spending reached $1.04 billion in July 2026, tripling from the previous year, and over 70% of the 10 million transactions recorded during that period were powered by stablecoins.
