Stablecoins Surpass $220B in Cross-Border Transfers Amid Market Downturn
Cross-border stablecoin flows have surged by 77.5% to $220.3 billion over the past year, despite a 37% decline in total global crypto market capitalization to $2.1 trillion.
This growth is attributed to stablecoins' increasing use for practical money movement rather than speculative trading, as noted by Chainalysis in its 2026 Global Crypto Adoption Index.
The top quarter of corridors accounted for 96.1% of measurable cross-border stablecoin value, with the remaining three-quarters carrying $8.66 billion, up from $260 million in the previous period.
Regulatory frameworks are tightening across major regions, including the US (GENIUS Act) and the EU (MiCA), alongside Hong Kong's licensing approach.
