Stablecoins Surpass 300M Users Amid Dollar-Banking App Boom
Stablecoins have seen an unprecedented surge in adoption, reaching over 300 million unique users in the past year. According to Patrick Kim of analytics firm Artemis, this figure represents a significant milestone for the industry.
This growth is happening despite a decline in retail crypto trading, with stablecoin usage becoming increasingly decentralized and driven by payment companies and consumer apps rather than traditional exchanges.
One notable trend is the rise of dollar-banking apps like Rizon, which are pushing the boundaries of traditional payments systems. These apps aim to make it easier for people in countries with limited access to financial services to send and receive money internationally.
Raj Kamal, who runs Dubai-based cross-border firm TransFi, notes that stablecoins have only just begun to scratch the surface of their potential, particularly when compared to traditional payments methods. He highlights the slow processing times of international payments systems like Swift, which can take anywhere from seconds to days to complete.
The regulation-friendly environment in countries such as the US and Europe is also driving growth in the stablecoin space. Stripe's recent $1.1 billion acquisition of stablecoin infrastructure firm Bridge demonstrates the growing interest in this area.
