Stacks Labs Maps Out Fully Decentralized Upgrade to PoX-6
Stacks Labs is already planning its next upgrade to the Proof of Transfer mechanism, PoX-6. This comes just months after the launch of PoX-5 in July 2026.
PoX-5 introduced Bitcoin staking through protocol bonds, allowing participants to lock BTC on Bitcoin Layer 1 and pair it with STX on the Stacks network.
The next version, PoX-6, aims to be fully decentralized and algorithmic. It will move away from the curated bootstrap phase of PoX-5, where key parameters were set by the Stacks Endowment, to a community-governed framework.
Blind auctions for bonding capacity and automated yield adjustments are expected in PoX-6. This could reduce reliance on the Endowment and make the system more transparent.
