Standard Chartered has introduced institutional custody services for Ripple’s RLUSD stablecoin, marking another step in its expansion into digital asset services. The UK-based bank announced the addition of RLUSD support on the XRP Ledger (XRPL) through its Dubai International Financial Centre (DIFC) branch, enabling eligible institutional clients to use its digital asset custody infrastructure.
The bank plans to expand the use of RLUSD as trading collateral by integrating it with LMAX Group, an institutional trading company. This integration would allow clients to use RLUSD as collateral while keeping the tokens in Standard Chartered’s custody, reducing the need to transfer tokens to LMAX’s trading platform. This model aims to minimize transfer-related risks and help institutions manage their exposure to trading counterparties.
Standard Chartered and LMAX Group had previously partnered in January 2026 to enhance the institutional use of RLUSD. However, the additional collateral capabilities are still subject to final documentation, testing, regulatory requirements, and internal approvals. Cointelegraph reached out to Standard Chartered for further details and will update the article upon receiving a response.
