Standard Chartered Predicts 2030 Surge for Four Key DeFi Tokens
Standard Chartered's head of digital assets research, Geoffrey Kendrick, has identified four decentralized finance (DeFi) tokens that could deliver significant returns by 2030 as traditional financial institutions embrace blockchain technology. Kendrick highlighted Uniswap (UNI), Aave (AAVE), Morpho (MORPHO), and Arbitrum (ARB) as projects poised to benefit from the growing trend of tokenizing real-world assets. The bank previously projected that the total value of tokenized assets on-chain could reach $4 trillion by the end of 2028, with stablecoins and real-world assets like securities and funds driving this growth.
Kendrick's long-term price targets for these tokens are ambitious. He set a $100 target for Uniswap, though he now believes this figure could be too conservative due to the platform's fee mechanism and supply-reduction strategies. For Aave, he projects a target of $3,500 by 2030, citing the protocol's resilience and leadership in on-chain banking. Morpho is expected to reach $60, positioned as a complementary asset-management platform to Aave. Arbitrum's target of $10 by 2030 stands out, with Kendrick noting its potential for significant revenue growth through partnerships like the one with Robinhood Chain.
The analysis comes as Chainalysis reported divergent crypto market developments across East Asia. South Korea leads with a $449.1 billion crypto economy, driven by retail traders' preference for AI-linked tokens. Japan's market is characterized by decentralized exchanges, while Hong Kong's institutional engagement stands out. China's crypto activity remains dominated by peer-to-peer stablecoin transfers despite regulatory bans. These regional differences highlight the fragmented nature of crypto markets, each shaped by local regulations and market structures.
Kendrick's framework assumes that institutional adoption will drive long-term value in tokenization. The ambitious targets for AAVE and ARB depend on accelerating adoption of tokenization, compounding protocol revenues, and clear regulatory frameworks. While the projections are optimistic, they underscore the potential for DeFi tokens to play a significant role in the future of finance.
