Standard Chartered Research Sparks Arbitrum Price Surge
Standard Chartered's research on Arbitrum's ARB token has gained attention for its potential to move markets. On September 15, the bank initiated coverage with a $10 price target for 2030, implying a roughly 70 times upside from the current trading price of around $0.13.
ARB surged up to 9% on the same day, while Bitcoin fell by about 4%, and Ethereum declined by 5.74%. The bank's research suggested that Arbitrum could become infrastructure for tokenized traditional finance, anchored by the Arbitrum Expansion Program.
The underlying case rested on Arbitrum becoming a hub for tokenized traditional finance, with chains built on its stack remitting 10% of net protocol revenue back to Arbitrum. Standard Chartered also projected that tokenized assets could reach $4 trillion by the end of 2028, up from roughly $340 billion today.
The move against a falling market raises questions about whether the bank's research itself has become the thing worth watching. While past instances have not proven causation, the size of ARB's same-session gap against three separate benchmarks makes it the strongest live test of whether the bank's initiations behave like tradable events.
