StarkWare Coding Contest Cuts Quantum-Safe Bitcoin Transaction Cost by 80% to $66
A recent coding contest organized by StarkWare has led to a significant reduction in the cost of preparing quantum-safe Bitcoin transactions. The contest, which offered over $20,000 in prizes, attracted contributions from both human developers and AI-assisted workflows.
The Quantum-Safe Bitcoin Optimization Challenge aimed to reduce the high cost of quantum-proofing Bitcoin transactions. According to StarkWare's research, a sufficiently powerful quantum computer could reverse-engineer a private key from a public one, draining a wallet before the owner could respond.
Previously, the cost of preparing a QSB transaction was around $320 in GPU compute time. However, after the contest, this number dropped to between $66 and $67, representing an 80% cost reduction.
