Startale Japan Launches First Corporate Bond Paid in Yen Stablecoin
Startale Japan has made history by launching the country’s first digital corporate bond that settles both interest and principal in JPYSC, a yen-denominated stablecoin. The bond, issued by Startale Japan Co., Ltd., represents a significant step in integrating regulated stablecoins into corporate financing. JPYSC, issued by SBI Shinsei Trust Bank, is Japan’s first trust-type yen stablecoin and qualifies as a Type 3 Electronic Payment Instrument under the Payment Services Act.
The bond offering is exclusively available to individual and corporate investors in Japan. This initiative expands the use of JPYSC beyond blockchain transactions, testing its potential within Japan’s traditional capital markets. Sota Watanabe, CEO of Startale Group, highlighted the project’s potential to create new fundraising and investment options, possibly serving as a turning point in finance.
This milestone is the result of a collaboration between Startale and SBI Group. SBI Shinsei Trust Bank manages the underlying assets backing JPYSC, while SBI VC Trade oversees its issuance and distribution. Startale Group provides the technological infrastructure, bridging blockchain with conventional finance.
The launch underscores Japan’s proactive approach to stablecoin regulation. Amendments to the Payment Services Act provided a framework for yen-denominated stablecoins, now being practically applied in this corporate bond offering.
