Startale Launches Digital Bond Payable in JPYSC Stablecoin
Startale Japan has launched a unique digital corporate bond that will pay interest and principal in JPYSC, a yen-denominated stablecoin issued by SBI Shinsei Trust Bank. The one-year bond, totaling ¥99.9 million, offers a fixed 5% annual pre-tax interest rate and is available for subscription in units starting at ¥100,000. Applications opened on October 6 and will close on November 10, with issuance set for December 1.
The bond represents a real-world test of stablecoin settlement in traditional financial instruments. Instead of traditional bank transfers, investors will receive interest payments and principal redemption in JPYSC through the Startale App. JPYSC is designed to maintain a one-to-one peg with the Japanese yen, functioning as a regulated trust-type electronic payment instrument.
While the bond's size is relatively small at ¥99.9 million, its significance lies in demonstrating how regulated stablecoins can integrate into conventional fixed-income products. The experiment aims to test whether stablecoins can reduce friction in financial transactions without altering the underlying economic structure of the security. If successful, this settlement model could be applied to larger corporate financing transactions in the future.
The bond is exclusively available to investors in Japan and comes with standard offering requirements. It is not described as a permissionless DeFi bond, emphasizing its conventional nature despite the innovative use of stablecoins for settlement.
