Startale Launches Japan’s First Yen Stablecoin Corporate Bond
Startale Japan has made history by launching the first digital corporate bond in Japan that pays both interest and principal in a yen-denominated stablecoin. The bond, issued by Startale Japan Co., Ltd., uses JPYSC, a stablecoin provided by SBI Shinsei Trust Bank. This marks the first time a yen stablecoin has been integrated into corporate financing, offering a new option for both corporate fundraising and individual investment.
The Startale Bond is exclusively available to investors within Japan, including both individuals and corporate entities. JPYSC is designed to maintain a 1:1 value with the Japanese yen and is classified as a Type 3 Electronic Payment Instrument under Japan’s Payment Services Act. This structure merges a regulated stablecoin with a traditional corporate bond, demonstrating how blockchain technology can enhance conventional financial instruments.
SBI Group and Startale collaborate to support the JPYSC infrastructure. SBI Shinsei Trust Bank issues and manages the stablecoin’s trust assets, while SBI VC Trade oversees its distribution. Startale Group provides the necessary blockchain technology to integrate the stablecoin into the financial framework. Sota Watanabe, CEO of Startale Group, views this initiative as a potential turning point in finance, paving the way for broader adoption of stablecoin-based settlements.
The launch is significant for the crypto market, as Japan has been proactive in regulating stablecoins. The recent amendments to the Payment Services Act provide a regulated foundation for yen-denominated stablecoins, and this bond issuance tests their practical application in capital markets.
