Stock Shorts Fuel Speculation About Bitcoin's Shift
A surge in short positions across American stocks is being closely watched for its potential impact on Bitcoin's (BTC) long-term behavior. According to a market update from XWIN Japan, hedge funds are stacking defensive positions while holding their long exposure in place, with gross leverage climbing to roughly 293%. This setup matters for Bitcoin because the asset has historically tracked equities during panics.
However, as the S&P 500 has traded in a tight band, Bitcoin has shown larger swings driven by ETF demand, leverage activity, and crypto-native flows. XWIN sees Bitcoin turning into a hybrid asset, still tied to macro liquidity yet more capable of moving on its own.
If future conditions bring Fed easing, a weaker dollar, and renewed ETF inflows, XWIN wrote that Bitcoin could become 'a secondary liquidity destination rather than simply a correlated tech-like asset.'
