Stocks Rise on Lower Crude Prices and Bond Yields
The stock market is experiencing a boost in value due to lower crude oil prices and declining bond yields. The S&P 500 Index, Dow Jones Industrial Average, and Nasdaq 100 Index are all rising, with the S&P 500 hitting a 1.5-week high and the Nasdaq 100 reaching a 5-week high. This uptick in stocks is attributed to weakness in crude oil prices, which has pushed bond yields lower and improved market sentiment.
WTI crude oil is down more than -3% at a 1-week low, while the 10-year T-note yield is down -3.9 bp to 4.957%. The Treasury will auction $211 billion of T-notes and floating-rate notes this week, beginning with Tuesday's auction of $69 billion of 2-year T-notes.
Chipmakers and AI stocks are also contributing to the market gains, with the iShares Semiconductor ETF up more than +2% at a 1-month high. ARM Holdings Plc is up over +10%, leading gainers in the Nasdaq 100, while Intel is up over +7% to lead gainers in the S&P 500.
Cryptocurrency-exposed stocks are also rising, with Bitcoin's price surging to a 7.5-month high and Circle Internet Group and Coinbase Global both up more than +5%. Cybersecurity stocks are climbing as well, supporting gains in the overall market.
