Store Clerk's Quick Thinking Foils Crypto Scam for Second Time
Rose Crumbley, a store manager at a Westlake gas station in Ohio, has saved a woman from potentially losing her life savings after stopping a cryptocurrency scammer for the second time. The scammer had convinced the victim to deposit over $1,900 into a fake account, claiming she owed a fine for missing federal jury duty.
Crumbley intervened by confronting the caller and taking the victim's phone away from her. She also called 911, alerting Westlake police to the situation.
This is not the first time Crumbley has foiled a cryptocurrency scam. Last June, she stopped an 85-year-old woman from sending $18,000 in cash to someone posing as her bank.
Crumbley believes that scammers are highly effective at their tactics and often target vulnerable individuals. She advises people not to answer phone calls from unfamiliar numbers and warns scammers: 'We're coming for you. We're coming for you.'
