Strategy Adds 334 Bitcoin to Record 848,000 Holdings
Strategy, the Bitcoin-focused treasury company led by Michael Saylor, has expanded its holdings with the purchase of 334 additional bitcoins for approximately $28.7 million. These acquisitions were made between September 28 and October 4, 2026, at an average price of $85,838.80 per bitcoin, as disclosed in a Form 8-K filing with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission. The latest buy brings Strategy’s total bitcoin holdings to a record 848,000 BTC, valued at roughly $73 billion at current prices.
The funding for these purchases came from a mix of at-the-market sales of the company’s Class A common stock (MSTR) and existing cash reserves. Strategy sold about 92,894 MSTR shares during the period, generating $15.7 million in net proceeds, with the remainder drawn from cash. Additionally, the company spent around $176 million repurchasing its preferred stock during the same window.
Strategy reported a substantial unrealized gain on its digital assets for the third quarter, estimated at $20.91 billion. The firm returned to profitability after four consecutive quarterly losses, with Bitcoin’s 43% rise during the quarter lifting the carrying value of its holdings to $70.82 billion as of September 30. Executive Chairman Michael Saylor highlighted the results on X, emphasizing the $21 billion gain and ongoing Bitcoin accumulation.
As of October 4, 2026, Strategy held a record 848,000 BTC, equivalent to about 4% of Bitcoin’s fixed 21 million supply, acquired at an aggregate cost of approximately $63.97 billion. The company paused its weekly Bitcoin purchases in late March 2026, sparking some speculation about demand. However, the latest acquisitions reinforce Strategy’s long-standing approach of treating Bitcoin as its primary treasury reserve asset.
