Strategy Bolsters Bitcoin Holdings Amid Cryptocurrency Rebound
Michael Saylor's Strategy has made another significant Bitcoin purchase, buying 950 more units at a price that surged past $85,000. The company spent nearly $76 million on this latest buy, which is its first in about three weeks. Its total holdings now stand at 846,000 Bitcoin, accounting for around 4% of the cryptocurrency's total supply.
The purchase comes as Bitcoin continues to rebound from a year-long bear market, having fallen to $58,000 in June and hitting a 53% decline from its October 2025 price of $125,000. Strategy's stock has also seen a nearly 9% increase to $167, partly due to the rally and the company's recent $174 million repurchase of STRC, its dividend-paying preferred shares.
Bitcoin's volatility has had an impact on Strategy, with its stock often tracking the cryptocurrency's price. Although Michael Saylor promotes a 'never sell your Bitcoin' mantra, Strategy has sold Bitcoin four times in the past four months. The company created STRC in 2025 to raise funds for more Bitcoin purchases during the downturn.
Chris Beauchamp, chief market analyst at IG Group, suggests that the smaller latest purchase may reflect a gradual approach as prices rise rather than concern about the rally. Buying pressure returned in mid-August after the U.S. Treasury announced it would double purchases of older long-term government bonds, renewing interest in Bitcoin as an alternative asset.
