Strategy Defies Market Downside with Aggressive Bitcoin Buying
Strategy, a company known for its Bitcoin holdings, has disclosed a significant unrealized loss of approximately $14.5 billion on its Bitcoin position in a filing with the U.S. SEC.
The company's total holdings now stand at 766,970 Bitcoin, worth around $54.5 billion at current prices, according to Strategy. Its cost basis sits at $75,644 per coin, roughly $5,000 above where the market was trading at the time of reporting.
Strategy has been aggressively buying Bitcoin in recent months, with a pace that outstrips the new supply generated by miners. In March, for example, Strategy purchased 46,233 coins, nearly three times the 16,200 newly mined Bitcoins.
The company's CEO, Michael Saylor, has stated that Bitcoin's price is no longer dictated by four-year cycles, but rather by institutional capital flows and credit markets. While this assertion may be seen as a bold prediction, it remains to be seen whether Strategy will continue its aggressive buying strategy despite sitting on billions in paper losses.
It is worth noting that Strategy has not signaled any change to its accumulation strategy, and if it continues to buy at the current pace, it could further tighten available supply over time. This development may have significant implications for the broader market and investors who closely watch corporate treasury activities.
