Strategy Doubles Down on BTC Sales, Aiming to Offload $5 Billion
Strategy, the world's largest Bitcoin treasury firm, is set to increase its Bitcoin sales fourfold from $1.25B to $5B. According to CEO Phong Le, Strategy will sell BTC for three reasons: to increase its US dollar reserve by up to $1.25B, fund annual dividend payments linked to Stretch (STRC) and other preferred stocks with $1.76B, and use an extra $2B to drive stock repurchase programs.
The planned crypto sales of $5.01B will add significant selling pressure on the market, with analysts warning that it could negatively impact BTC's price. Galaxy Research previously stated that Strategy's BTC sales would not resolve its structural issues unless it generates recurring income from a section of its BTC holdings.
The firm had previously sold $216M to fund dividend obligations, and Grayscale said at the time that the plan would 'restore confidence' in Strategy's financing structure. However, with the new increased sales target, it remains unclear whether they still have this outlook.
