Strategy Halts Bitcoin Sales, Repurchases STRC Shares with Proceeds from $334M MSTR Sale
Strategy, a Bitcoin treasury company founded by Michael Saylor, has halted its Bitcoin sales after two consecutive weeks of liquidations. Instead of dumping its BTC holdings, the company raised funds by selling $334 million worth of MSTR stock and used the proceeds to buy back STRC shares.
The repurchased STRC shares were valued at around $132 million, while the remaining $202 million was allocated towards STRC dividend payments. The company also strengthened its cash position by sending an additional $149.1 million into its USD reserve, boosting it to a staggering $4.8 billion.
As of August 16, 2026, Strategy's Bitcoin stash stands at approximately 840,447 BTC, acquired for around $63.36 billion at an average purchase rate of $75,385 per coin. The company is currently facing an unrealized loss of about $8 billion due to the lower current price.
The USD reserves are meant to cover preferred stock dividends and interest payments, with Strategy also approving a $1 billion buyback program for its digital credit securities. The platform has launched another $1 billion repurchase program to buy back its common stock, and the BTC Monetization Program allows the sale of up to $5 billion in Bitcoin.
