Strategy Inc. Aims for $348 Billion Capital Base, Betting Big on Bitcoin
Michael Saylor, executive chairman of Strategy Inc., is setting his sights high. He claims that his company will surpass Berkshire Hathaway's $348 billion capital base in three to five years, thanks largely to its massive holdings in Bitcoin.
The strategy, which Saylor calls the 'Bitcoin flywheel,' involves issuing debt and equity to acquire more BTC, which is then used as collateral to raise even more capital. Strategy currently holds over 640,000 BTC, making it the largest corporate holder of the cryptocurrency.
Saylor argues that Berkshire Hathaway's massive cash reserves are a relic of a bygone era and are actively losing value due to inflation. He advocates swapping those reserves for Bitcoin, which he sees as a hedge against currency degradation.
The risks, however, are significant. Strategy's valuation is heavily reliant on the price of Bitcoin, and a prolonged bear market could threaten the company's viability. Additionally, scaling this strategy to the $348 billion level Saylor targets will require continued market appetite for Strategy's instruments and confidence in Bitcoin's trajectory.
