Strategy Inc. Posts $8.2B Loss as Bitcoin Price Slide Erases $14B Gain
Strategy Inc., which trades as MSTR on Nasdaq, reported an $8.22 billion quarterly loss due to unrealized markdowns on its Bitcoin position after the price slid from its 2026 highs.
The company grew its BTC stack by 11% to 843,775 coins over Q2, but continued selling to fund shareholder payouts, including a $216 million sale of 3,588 BTC in early July at an average price near $60,000.
Strategy's chairman and co-founder Michael Saylor stated that the sales were not a retreat from its Bitcoin treasury strategy but routine capital management, preferring digital credit issuance to other volatility-based tools due to counterparty risk and tax complications.
