Strategy Inc. Prioritizes Liquidity Over Bitcoin Accumulation
Strategy Inc., a company known for its 'Bitcoin only' accumulation strategy, has undergone a significant shift in its approach to managing capital. The company's latest SEC filing shows that it is now prioritizing liquidity over Bitcoin accumulation.
The change was formalized on June 29, 2026, when Strategy introduced the Digital Credit Capital Framework, which mandates the creation of a massive U.S. dollar reserve dedicated solely to covering preferred stock dividends and interest on debt.
Under this framework, Strategy has sold $1.25 billion in Bitcoin to fund its USD reserve, pay dividends, or fund repurchases. The average sale price was $63,957, substantially lower than the company's aggregate purchase price of $75,419.
The proceeds from these sales were used to fund preferred stock dividends and repurchase shares of Digital Credit Securities under the newly established Digital Credit Securities Repurchase Program. Strategy also utilized its at-the-market (ATM) equity offerings to raise capital for immediate Bitcoin purchases, but instead of using this cash to buy more crypto, it was routed into defensive reserves.
The company's opportunistic buyback of its own preferred equity is perhaps the shrewdest financial maneuver in the August filing. Strategy deployed $81.2 million to repurchase 912,143 shares of STRC stock at an average purchase price of roughly $89.02 per share.
