Strategy Inc.'s STRC Stock Surges Above $90 Amid Buyback and Dividend Boost
Strategy Inc.'s STRC stock has made a significant recovery since June, crossing the $90 mark for the first time in nearly two months. The stock opened at $92.32 in early August and reached an intraday high of $92.80, representing a roughly 30% rebound from its lows around $73.
The company's buyback program, which allows it to repurchase up to $1 billion worth of STRC shares, has played a crucial role in this recovery. Strategy still had $975 million remaining in the program by late July, enabling it to scoop up shares below par value and improve the math for remaining holders.
The company also increased its dividend payout, offering investors a 12% yield paid out in semi-monthly installments of $0.50 per share. This move is significant, as Strategy's USD Reserve now sits at $3.75 billion, providing enough coverage for approximately 25 months of preferred dividend payments.
However, the company's reliance on Bitcoin still poses a risk. With an unrealized loss of over $14 billion due to its average purchase price of $75,680 per BTC and current market value around $58,000, Strategy may need to sell some of its holdings to fund preferred stock obligations.
Strategy's willingness to sell up to $1.25 billion worth of Bitcoin introduces a new variable, which could create a negative feedback loop if the company begins liquidating BTC at prices below its cost basis.
