Strategy Inc. Scales Back Dividend Payments to Support Bitcoin Accumulation
Michael Saylor, executive chairman of Strategy Inc. (Nasdaq: MSTR), explained how the company manages cash, financing costs, and shareholder rights to sustain dollar income while accumulating Bitcoin. Strategy's business model offers greater Bitcoin exposure to investors, with STRC preferred stock targeting dollar income and reduced price volatility.
The company separates cash reserves for dividends and debt interest from funds available for investment and capital allocation. This distinction allows Strategy to maintain a larger reserve, giving the business more time to meet obligations without immediately raising funds or selling assets.
MSTR common shares provide ownership in the business, while STRC investors seek dollar income and reduced price volatility. The 12% annualized rate of STRC's Stretch preferred stock adjusts monthly to encourage trading near its $100 stated value.
Strategy has proposed dividends accruing every calendar day, including weekends and holidays, with declared amounts generally paid the next business day. Shareholders are scheduled to vote Oct. 28 on the daily dividend amendments, which would change payment frequency without changing regular dividend rates or total regular obligations.
