Strategy MSTR Soars 5% on $1.59B Liquidity Pool and Bitcoin Surge
Strategy MSTR shares jumped 4.9% in the afternoon session after the company disclosed its establishment of a $1.59 billion liquidity pool and raised $2.01 billion through equity sales to bolster its cash reserves.
The new USD Cash account was funded by selling approximately 18.26 million Class A common shares, with $1.59 billion allocated to the pool, $300 million used to expand the company's USD Reserve to $5.10 billion, and $136.4 million directed towards repurchasing perpetual preferred stock.
The liquidity component provides management with flexible capital for general treasury operations, including potential Bitcoin purchases, debt service, preferred stock dividends, and share repurchases.
Strategy's shares are volatile, having had 58 moves greater than 5% over the last year. The current rally is partly attributed to underlying asset BTC, which surged past $78,000 per CoinMarketCap.com, instantly flipping a multibillion-dollar paper loss into an unrealized profit of over $1.4 billion for Strategy's 840,447 Bitcoin treasury holding.
The company's equity is priced as a leveraged claim on its Bitcoin holdings, and investors treat MSTR as a high-beta BTC vehicle rather than a software name.
