Strategy Pauses Bitcoin Buying Amid Focus on Cash Reserves
Michael Saylor's Strategy has paused its Bitcoin buying activity for four weeks, marking the first time in two years. The company's latest move comes after it raised $263 million in cash reserves between July 13 and July 19. This decision is seen as a strategic shift to focus on building up cash reserves rather than making new Bitcoin purchases.
In recent months, Strategy has been selling its shares to raise capital for various initiatives, including a $1 billion buyback for digital credit securities and a $1 billion buyback for common stock. The company's market value relative to its Bitcoin-adjusted market net asset value (mNAV) fell below 1 on June 27, indicating that it now trades at a discount to the Bitcoin it holds.
The capital framework adopted by Strategy prioritizes cash reserves over new Bitcoin acquisitions, and analysts believe this approach is crucial for long-term sustainability. The company's next major disclosure is set for Thursday, July 30, when it will announce its second-quarter results after the U.S. market closes.
