Strategy Pauses Bitcoin Purchases Amid Cash Reserve Build-Up
Strategy, the world's largest Bitcoin treasury firm, has suspended its weekly Bitcoin purchases to focus on building cash reserves. The company, led by chairman Michael Saylor, has not made a purchase in four weeks and instead added $525 million to its U.S. dollar reserve, bringing its total cash holdings to $3.75 billion as of July 27.
This move is significant because it shows Strategy's ability to easily pay out dividends without having to sell from its large Bitcoin stash. With this multi-billion cash reserve, the company can cover dividend payments for about 2.1 years, sparking discussions across the crypto community.
Despite the pause in Bitcoin purchases, Strategy still remains the largest publicly traded corporate Bitcoin holder, with a portfolio unchanged at 843,775 BTC. This decision may have been influenced by growing speculation about Strategy's stock dilution and criticism from industry leaders over its business model.
