Strategy Sells Bitcoin at Loss for Third Time in 2026
Michael Saylor's company, Strategy (MSTR), has sold Bitcoin at a loss for the third time in 2026. The sales took place between July 27 and August 2, with a total of 1,638 BTC being offloaded at an average price of $63,957, below the firm's cost basis of $75,419.
This is a departure from Saylor's previous stance on Bitcoin, which he has long advocated for holding onto. In fact, Strategy's filings show that it currently holds 842,138 BTC, representing about 4.01% of all supply, against a market cap near $36 billion.
The company's goal is to become the largest company on Earth by market capitalization, with a plan to issue strong credit and mint the best equity. However, this requires Bitcoin to cooperate, as Saylor laid out in an August 5 post and Q2 call.
