Strategy Stock Surges After Raising $263 Million Without Tapping Bitcoin

Strategy stock rose by 5% on Monday after the company disclosed that it raised $263 million through the sale of common stock without touching its bitcoin stash.

The funds will give Strategy more room to fund its dividends without reducing the size of its massive bitcoin holding, which has grown significantly since Michael Saylor launched the company's bitcoin accumulation strategy in August 2020.

Strategy has not sold any bitcoin over the past two weeks but did sell 2,225 units at the beginning of July. The sale was part of a larger plan to raise up to $1.25 billion through the sale of its bitcoin, with proceeds going towards growing its cash reserve or buying back shares.

The company's decision to sell common stock rather than bitcoin comes as it faces intense pressure to meet rising cash needs amid the bear market in bitcoin. Strategy's complicated capital structure and growing dividend obligations have been a major concern for investors.
