Strategy Unloads Another $108M in BTC Amid Lender Preferences for Dollars
Strategy, one of the world's largest corporate holders of Bitcoin, has sold another batch of its cryptocurrency holdings. This time around, it was 1,690 BTC worth approximately $108.6 million. The sale brings Strategy's total Bitcoin sales for this year to 6,948 BTC, despite still holding a massive stash of 840,447 BTC.
Not everyone is surprised by the move. Peter Schiff, a long-time critic of Bitcoin, has been vocal about his concerns over Strategy's decision to sell its holdings. In fact, he even took to Twitter to express his views, stating that lenders still prefer dollars over Bitcoin when securing financing. He also urged investors to sell MSTR shares and Bitcoin.
However, not all experts agree with Schiff's assessment. Macro strategist Dan Hillery defended Strategy's approach, suggesting that the company is simply optimizing its balance sheet during periods of market volatility. Michael Saylor, Strategy's co-founder, has also argued that selling a limited amount of Bitcoin does not undermine the company's financing model.
It remains to be seen how this will impact the price of Bitcoin or the overall cryptocurrency market. One thing is certain, however: Strategy's decision to sell its holdings has sparked renewed debate about the role of Bitcoin as collateral and the long-term viability of the company's model.
