Strategy's $297M Bitcoin Transfer Revealed as Routine Custody Reshuffle
Strategy's recent $297 million Bitcoin transfer has sparked anxiety among investors due to its size and speed. The company, led by Michael Saylor, is one of the world's largest corporate Bitcoin holders.
The transfer, which was initially flagged as a potential sale, was revealed to be a routine internal reshuffling within Fidelity Custody infrastructure. Analyst Emmett Gallic from Arkham explained that the sending and receiving addresses were already labeled on their platform as belonging to Fidelity, allowing analysts to trace the movement back to a single custodian.
Fidelity's custody model pools client Bitcoin deposits, making it difficult to distinguish between individual customer transactions. When the custodian reorganizes its internal address structure, blockchain observers may interpret the activity as client withdrawals, even though beneficial ownership remains unchanged.
