Strike Offers 3.6% Bitcoin Interest on Cash Balances
Strike, the Bitcoin payments platform founded by Jack Mallers, has introduced a new feature called Bitcoin Interest on Cash. This offering provides US users with a 3.6% annual percentage yield on their cash balances, with interest paid out in Bitcoin. The feature went live on October 6, 2026, and users must opt in through the Strike app to participate.
The interest accrues daily and is paid out monthly in sats, but only if the daily interest exceeds $0.01. There are no minimum or maximum balance requirements to earn the 3.6% rate. For example, with Bitcoin priced at approximately $85,000, an $8,000 cash balance would generate around $288 in yearly Bitcoin income, equivalent to about 338,824 sats.
Strike clarifies that cash balances are held at Cross River Bank, which is FDIC-insured up to $250,000 per depositor. The Bitcoin holdings are kept on a one-to-one basis in multi-signature cold storage, ensuring security through multiple keys required to move funds. Strike emphasizes that the Bitcoin is not lent out or rehypothecated.
The new feature aligns with Strike's broader strategy of building a comprehensive Bitcoin financial stack. Earlier in 2026, the platform expanded its Bitcoin-backed lending options, though the interest product remains separate from this service. The goal is to provide Bitcoin holders with a seamless way to earn interest on their idle dollars without leaving the Bitcoin ecosystem.
