Stripe-Led Stablecoin OUSD Launches on Four Blockchains
Open Standard's Open USD (OUSD) has launched on four blockchain platforms and is now supported for trading on three major exchanges. The stablecoin initiative, led by Zach Abrams of Bridge - a Stripe-owned company, aims to provide shared infrastructure for businesses using stablecoins in payments, settlement, and global money movement.
Developers can integrate OUSD through APIs provided by four partners: Coinbase, Mastercard, Stripe, and Visa. These integrations offer tools for settlement, payment orchestration, trading, wallets, and cards, as well as free 1:1 USD minting and burning functionality. BVNK, Stripe, and the Visa Stablecoin Platform are already available, with support from Coinbase set to begin on October 1.
OUSD is backed by reserves held at BlackRock, Lead Bank, and BNY, with monthly attestations planned to ensure stability. The project's partner network has grown to more than 200 financial institutions, fintechs, banks, and global businesses.
