Sui's DeFi Ecosystem Surpasses $1.2 Billion in Total Value Locked
Sui's decentralized finance (DeFi) ecosystem has reached a significant milestone, surpassing $1.2 billion in total value locked (TVL), according to a September 22 validation snapshot.
The network's TVL is a dollar-denominated metric that can rise due to token prices as well as fresh deposits. In this case, the increase from around $1 billion earlier in the week to $1.21 billion is largely driven by market appreciation, with NAVI Protocol accounting for over $420 million of deposits.
The concentration of capital in a small number of protocols raises concerns about the overall health of Sui's DeFi ecosystem. However, the network's DEX and lending activity have grown alongside the value locked, indicating that the $1.2 billion figure represents usable liquidity rather than idle capital.
While the current TVL milestone is significant, it is essential to monitor whether deposits and activity continue growing after the immediate price effect is stripped out. This will provide a better view of whether Sui's DeFi growth is durable or merely benefiting from a stronger token market.
