SWIFT's Blockchain Push Reshapes Cross-Border Payments Landscape
The long-standing narrative pitting XRP against SWIFT as competitors in cross-border payments is becoming outdated, as SWIFT's aggressive move into blockchain technology signals a broader industry shift towards tokenized assets and programmable finance.
SWIFT, the Society for Worldwide Interbank Financial Telecommunication, has rolled out a new blockchain ledger in collaboration with 17 major banks across six continents. The participating institutions can now transfer tokenized value across multiple major currencies, including the US dollar, euro, British pound, Hong Kong dollar, and Singapore dollar.
Crypto commentator X Finance Bull has argued that viewing XRP and SWIFT strictly as rivals is no longer a suitable framework. The features SWIFT is now prioritizing, 24/7 settlement, tokenized money, blockchain infrastructure, interoperability, and programmable finance, are the same capabilities that have long been associated with XRP's value proposition.
