The Swiss financial establishment has come together to develop a stablecoin, marking an unusual move in the crypto space. The CHF stablecoin sandbox, a consortium effort involving prominent Swiss banks, entered its active testing phase on September 8 with the addition of SIX and TWINT.

The sandbox aims to create a stablecoin pegged 1:1 to the Swiss franc, which will be used for interbank automated transactions, tokenized asset settlements, and programmable payments. Programmable payments refer to 'if this, then that' logic applied to money, where a payment could automatically execute when a shipment clears customs.

The sandbox operates under strict guardrails, with capped participant numbers and transaction volumes. The initiative is exploratory in nature, with no commitment to a full commercial launch by the end of 2026.
