Taiwan Prepares Stablecoin Regulations Amid Semiconductor Industry Interest
Taiwan's Financial Supervisory Commission (FSC) is making progress on implementing regulations for stablecoins under its Virtual Asset Service Act. According to Chairman Peng Jinlong, nine supporting regulations, including detailed stablecoin rules, could be formally introduced as early as the first quarter of 2027.
The new law and regulations aim to establish a licensing framework for crypto businesses and govern stablecoin issuance in Taiwan. The FSC has been working on subsidiary regulations since the Virtual Asset Service Act was passed in June, with stablecoin requirements forming part of this package.
Taiwan's semiconductor industry is also exploring the potential of stablecoins and blockchain technology for cross-border payments, trade financing, and treasury management. Industry executives see this infrastructure as crucial for the growth of Taiwan's semiconductor supply chain, which accounts for a significant portion of global production.
