Taiwan Readies Stablecoin Regulations by Q1 2027
Taiwan's Financial Supervisory Commission (FSC) is nearing completion of nine regulations for its Virtual Asset Service Act, including detailed rules for stablecoins. The new regulations are expected to be published and implemented as early as the first quarter of 2027.
The FSC has been working on these subsidiary regulations since the passage of the Virtual Asset Service Act in June. Chairman Peng Jinlong stated that global discussions around virtual assets and stablecoins have shifted from whether they should exist to how they should be properly regulated.
Taiwan's semiconductor industry is increasingly turning to stablecoins and blockchain technology for cross-border payments, custody, tokenization, and other digital asset services. Industry executives see these technologies as potential infrastructure for the industry's growth.
