Takaichi Denies Link to Sanae Token Amid Web3 Development Support

Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi has denied being associated with the 'Sanae Token', a cryptocurrency launched in her name. According to reports, she was unaware of the token's existence during an appearance at the lower house of the National Diet of Japan. The development of the token is linked to businessman Ken Matsui and Takaichi's chief public secretary Tsuyoshi Kinoshita.

Kinoshita acknowledged that he interacted with business operators connected to Matsui, but thought 'Sanae Token' referred to app points rather than a cryptocurrency. This has raised questions about whether the PM's secretary knowingly engaged with the crypto project.

Takaichi has generally supported Japan's Web3 and blockchain development, including initiatives related to tokenization. The government is also strengthening safeguards against fraud and unauthorized token issuance.
