Tanzanian Tour Operator Adds Bitcoin Payment Option for Safaris and Treks
Zatatep Tours, a licensed Tanzanian tour operator with over two decades of experience, has started accepting bitcoin as a payment option for safaris and treks across Tanzania. The move allows travelers to book wildlife safaris, Mount Kilimanjaro treks, and beach stays in Zanzibar using the cryptocurrency, alongside traditional credit cards. This initiative aims to eliminate international settlement friction for cryptocurrency users, avoiding bank wires, currency conversion charges, or foreign transaction fees.
The new payment setup lets travelers customize their itineraries and pay directly from their digital wallets. Once payment is confirmed, the on-the-ground experience, including park fees and lodge arrangements, remains the same as standard bookings. This adoption comes as Tanzania sees strong international tourism numbers, with key attractions like Tarangire National Park, Ngorongoro Conservation Area, and Serengeti National Park drawing visitors from around the world.
Industry observers note that while traditional payment methods will continue to dominate, expanding crypto-payment gateways gives tour operators a competitive edge. This is particularly appealing to younger, tech-focused international travelers who prefer seamless cross-border transactions. The trend is expected to grow, with crypto payments across East Africa anticipated to expand through 2026.
