Tasmania Police Warns Cryptocurrency ATM Users After $1.5 Million in Scam Losses

Tasmania Police has issued a warning to users of cryptocurrency ATMs after an investigation revealed that over $1.5 million was lost by victims of scams in the state.

The losses occurred over a three-month period earlier this year, with funds being deposited into cryptocurrency ATMs across Tasmania.

Detective Sergeant Paul Turner said that the number of cryptocurrency ATMs in Tasmania has increased significantly in recent years, growing from just one machine in 2021 to 28 statewide.

The police are warning users to remain vigilant and not deposit cash into a cryptocurrency ATM if someone they have only met online or spoken to over the phone asks them to do so.
