Tasmanians Lose $1.5 Million to Cryptocurrency Scammers

Tasmanian residents have lost over $1.5 million to scammers who exploited cryptocurrency ATMs across the state, according to an investigation by Tasmania Police.

The police crackdown is part of a national effort to combat the growing use of cryptocurrency ATMs in scams targeting victims of romance and investment schemes.

Detective Sergeant Paul Turner warned that users should be wary of being asked to deposit cash into a cryptocurrency ATM by someone they have met online or over the phone.
