TD Cowen Raises Bitcoin Price Target to $132,750 by 2027
TD Cowen has revised its long-term outlook for Bitcoin after the cryptocurrency outperformed the firm's initial forecasts. The investment bank now anticipates Bitcoin reaching $132,750 by the end of 2027, representing a 54% increase from its current price of $86,072. This adjustment comes after Bitcoin closed the third quarter significantly higher than TD Cowen's earlier projection of $76,235.
Lance Vitanza, Managing Director and Senior Analyst of Digital Asset Strategies at TD Cowen, noted that the firm is reassessing its longer-term targets following Bitcoin's stronger-than-expected performance. However, he clarified that this does not constitute a formal forecast change. Vitanza also highlighted that TD Cowen still expects Bitcoin to appreciate at an annual rate of 20% to 30%.
Grayscale Investments provided additional context, showing that Bitcoin's 225% three-year return drops to 95% without its five best trading days and turns into an 11% loss without its top fifteen. This underscores the volatility and the concentrated nature of Bitcoin's gains compared to traditional indices like the Nasdaq-100.
Vitanza also discussed the potential for Bitcoin treasury companies, suggesting that firms maintaining favorable Bitcoin buying practices could appreciate faster than the cryptocurrency itself. He remained unfazed by reports that MSCI may drop some treasury companies from its stock indexes, stating that index funds hold only 3% or less of those companies' shares.
