Tech Executives Sign Voluntary AI Safety Accord at White House
The White House hosted a luncheon on September 29 for some of the biggest names in artificial intelligence, including Mark Zuckerberg and Jensen Huang. The gathering ended with a collective signature on a voluntary AI safety accord.
The document focuses on enhanced safety reviews for frontier AI models, internal and external audits, and self-regulatory framework that lets companies police themselves rather than face government-imposed mandates.
Trump described the agreement as 'morally binding,' but emphasized it's not legally enforceable. He also proposed creating a ten-person oversight committee to guide future AI regulations.
This isn't the first time Silicon Valley has made promises about AI safety at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue. The September 29 accord builds on a series of voluntary commitments stretching back to 2023, including another round secured by the Biden White House in July 2023.
