A group of young men in their late teens and early twenties pulled off one of the largest cryptocurrency thefts in U.S. history, duping a stranger out of over $240 million worth of Bitcoin.

The scammers, who used social engineering tactics to steal the funds, then embarked on a wild spending spree, purchasing sports cars, private jets, and mansions in Miami and the Hamptons.

One of the alleged ringleaders, 22-year-old Malone Lam, spent over $569,000 at a Los Angeles nightclub in one evening alone.

The group's lavish spending eventually drew attention from investigators, who linked their IP addresses to various cryptocurrency exchanges and uncovered evidence of money laundering.
