Telegram Splits Crypto Services into Gram Wallet and Rebranded Walt Platform

Share

Telegram has revamped its crypto ecosystem by splitting its Wallet in Telegram service into two distinct offerings. The new self-custodial Gram wallet is now the default wallet in user settings, focusing on payments, transfers, and purchases within Telegram.

The rebranded Walt platform will offer a broader range of crypto services, including trading, investing, and support for assets across multiple blockchains. Unlike Gram wallet, which will serve as Telegram's transaction layer, Walt will remain accessible through search in the messaging app.

Gram wallet supports purchases of Telegram Collectibles, including gifts, usernames, and phone numbers, as well as payments for services and everyday purchases. The self-custodial wallet is connected to Walt, allowing users to make multichain crypto deposits.

The rebranding reflects Wallet in Telegram's expansion beyond its origins as a simple wallet primarily used to buy and hold Gram (GRAM).
