Tempo's Stablecoin Market Cap Soars 161% in One Week
Tempo, a Layer 1 blockchain incubated by Stripe and Paradigm, has seen a remarkable surge in stablecoin market cap growth. In a single week, its aggregate stablecoin market cap increased by approximately $462M, or 161%, to around $729M, according to DefiLlama data.
The catalyst behind this growth is Open USD (OUSD), a stablecoin that launched on Tempo on September 30, 2026. With a market cap of around $471.72M, OUSD accounts for roughly 64.7% of Tempo's total stablecoin market cap.
OUSD was designed with institutional users in mind, holding reserves at reputable institutions such as BlackRock, Lead Bank, and BNY Mellon. It also offers zero fees for minting or redeeming, no volume caps, and launched with over $400M in liquidity across decentralized exchanges and other platforms.
Tempo's mainnet launched on March 18, 2026, after raising $500M in a Series A round in October 2025 at a valuation of $5B. The chain is built on Ethereum's architecture but optimized for stablecoin payments at enterprise scale, with transaction fees averaging below $0.001.
