Tesla Stock Drops Despite UK Supreme Court Win in 5G Patent Battle
Tesla's (TSLA) stock price dropped by 1.39% to close at $308.69 despite a significant legal win in the UK Supreme Court. The court reinstated Tesla's lawsuit challenging 5G patent licensing practices, allowing the automaker to pursue fair licensing rates for standard-essential patents integral to internet-connected automobiles.
The UK Supreme Court reversed previous judicial decisions that had dismissed portions of Tesla's patent licensing challenge, permitting the company to seek British courts' establishment of fair, reasonable and non-discriminatory terms for licensing agreements. This decision grants Tesla another opportunity to demonstrate that existing licensing arrangements fail to comply with FRAND principles.
Tesla held onto its entire position of 11,509 Bitcoin during the second quarter, conducting neither acquisitions nor disposals. The company made no modifications to its digital asset approach throughout the reporting timeframe. Meanwhile, the automaker's courtroom victory operates independently from its digital currency approach and quarterly financial disclosures.
