Tether and Shiga Unveil Self-Custodial Products for Africa and GCC
Tether and Shiga are collaborating to launch self-custodial financial products across Africa and the Gulf Cooperation Council. The products will use Tether's Wallet Development Kit and support USDT, Bitcoin, and Tether Gold.
The partnership centers on two products: ENTA for individuals, high-net-worth users, and businesses, and Pulse for institutions like banks and fintech companies. ENTA allows users to fund self-custodial wallets using local currency, U.S. dollars, or Bitcoin, while Pulse enables institutions to build digital-asset services around specific payment corridors.
The self-custody element is crucial, as users or institutions retain control of their keys and assets rather than relying on a centralized wallet provider. This approach is particularly relevant in Africa, where the average cost of sending remittances to Sub-Saharan Africa reached 8.46% in 2025.
